Special Outings

CCFNM Kids and Families Create Gala Centerpieces

ETGT_Pot-PaintingTwenty-three of our kids and their families joined together for a fun morning of pot painting on Saturday, May 23, at Off-Center. Generously coordinated by Roy Johnson (Sumner & Dene) and sponsored by Osuna Nursery and Langell’s Art Supply, an eclectic and beautifully created array of pots were lovingly painted to grace the tables at the Erin Trujeque Memorial Gala event on July 9, 2009. These works of art will be available for sale and will serve as a precious memento to lucky purchasers.

A Day at the State Legislature

Legislature-StoryOn February 16, 2009 (President’s Day), Kyle Stepp and Joefanathan Yazzie were guests of Senate Majority Leader Michael Sanchez at the New Mexico State Legislature. Senator Sanchez, a long-time supporter of the Children’s Cancer Fund invited Kyle and Joefanathan to experience state government firsthand. This was the first visit to the Legislature for both young men. Accompanied by Mary Ellen Kurucz, her husband Tom, and Dee Trujeque, they rode the RailRunner and arrived in time to attend a joint session of the House and Senate. It was an extraordinary day as the joint session was addressed by the Governor, as well as then Congressman-elect Ben Ray Lujan. Seated in the front row with the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and Legislative Leadership were Kyle and Joefanathan. They both had many opportunities to interact with elected officials and learn more about how state government operates.

Kyle has a very special interest in the legislative process, as he aspires to pursue a career in government. Senator Sanchez has offered Kyle an internship at the proposed special legislative session this summer. Thank you Senator Sanchez for making this unique opportunity possible for Joefanathan and Kyle!
